Our Services > Crowns

What is a crown?
A crown is a complete covering for a tooth. Crowns can be made from all porcelain or can be made from a precious metal with porcelain bonded to it.

A crown can be used to improve a tooth's appearance or to restore a very broken down tooth.

It can be a good way to restore teeth which are decayed, discoloured or misshaped.

These diagrams show how a discoloured tooth is shaped and a crown fitted to improve its appearance.

What will my dentist do?
The original tooth will be shaped and impressions will be taken.  These are sent to a laboratory for the crowns to be made.  In the meantime temporary crowns are fitted.

After about a week and a half the temporary crowns are removed and the permanent crowns fitted with dental cement.
